Principal Consultant - Gender Based Violence (GBV)
Kate joined Social Development Direct in January 2017 as Senior Technical Specialist and Lead Consultant for our Gender Based Violence (GBV) portfolio.
She has 14 years’ experience working on Violence against Women and Girls, women’s rights, and gender equality across a range of development contexts. She previously worked as a Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) Advisor for DFID, where she was involved with the strategic development of DFID’s portfolio of work on VAWG. Whilst at DFID she developed a ground-breaking and ambitious portfolio on ending VAWG including the £25m flagship ‘What Works to prevent VAWG research and innovation fund’.
Within DFID’s Gender Team, Kate also worked on developing policy, evidence and global programming on child, early and forced marriage to support preparations for the Girl Summit. Kate played a key role in the expansion of DFID’s investment in research and programming on VAWG. She increased cross-Whitehall level and quality of engagement in VAWG and was also involved cross-DFID work to support the delivery of the Strategic Vision for girls and women.
Kate has a strong track record in evidence-based policy and programme development, and organisational strategy and development in a range of international and national contexts. She holds a Masters in Violence, Conflict and Development form the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
