Senior Technical Specialist, Safeguarding
Haifa is a senior technical advisory expert with extensive experience in international development and humanitarian emergencies, in large-scale and complex programmes across the world. Haifa has worked in a range of organisations, including the British Red Cross, the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, Christian Aid, Human Rights Watch and World Vision UK. Haifa has also worked in the academic and private commercial sectors.
Haifa draws on her multifaceted experience to provide guidance and leadership to clients on safeguarding. To this end, she leverages her expertise in developing and driving organisational and programmatic safeguarding policies, systems and practice across a range of challenging environments and organisations across the world and in the UK.
Haifa built her safeguarding credentials on a strong base and through a specific lens. Her career organically grew to focus on child, women, girls, and disability-centric protection and inclusion. Her lived experience as a girl and a woman with a chronic health condition who grew up in Lebanon during the civil war, has shaped her feminism, her position on disability inclusion, and her commitment to anti-racism and decolonising aid.
Haifa holds a MSc in Health, Community and Development with Merit from the London School of Economics, a D.E.S.S (Masters) in Journalism from the Paris II Pantheon Assas University and a BSc in Environmental and Public Health with distinction from the American University of Beirut. Haifa is trilingual and credits her fluency in Arabic, French and English for the vast professional and personal opportunities they opened up to her.
Of all the feedback Haifa’s ever received, this is the one she values most: “Looking through Feminist Leadership Principles there is nothing there which Haifa doesn’t demonstrate in bucket loads. Haifa works brilliantly with everyone from in-country teams, to donors, to suppliers. She is persistent and constantly goes above and beyond in all her work. Haifa is extremely accountable, inclusive and empowering in everything she does”.
