Senior Technical Specialist
Andrea is a Senior Technical Specialist in the safeguarding team at Social Development Direct. With a background in social care and child protection, Andrea brings 14 years’ experience providing technical assistance, investigation, training and capacity building, policy development and strengthening, and institutional learning. She has a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan in the USA and has since worked across the UK, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa region. Before her role as Safeguarding Manager for the Girls Education Challenge, Andrea oversaw safeguarding issues and child protection cases in the UK and abroad.
Andrea’s has extensive experience providing guidance and support to organisations and programmes on human centred safeguarding mechanisms, practices, and procedures to reduce the risk for children in education and non-educational environments. Andrea is a key member of the GEC team building the capacity of GEC-T projects and fund managers to ensure compliance with DFID’s safeguarding standards. Before her role in the GEC, Andrea was the Safeguarding and National Training and Development Manager at the Church of England and was appointed to the Anglican Communion Global Safe Church Commission setting safeguarding and protection standards across national church institutions and building organizational safeguarding capacities in developing countries.
Andrea brings expertise in child protection auditing, compliance, mainstreaming and MEL in educational and non-educational contexts. She engages in programmes across their life cycle and has led safeguarding development teams at an international level.
