Susanna joined SDDirect’s Programme Management team in November 2016. She is responsible for managing the DFID- funded programme La Pepiniere with the aim of improving the situation of adolescent girls and young women in the DRC through economic empowerment.
Susanna holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights from Uppsala University, and has been a lecturer in human rights for undergraduate students.
She has over 10 years experience of working with gender, human rights and peacebuilding related assignments in multiple countries and contexts, with in-depth experience in East and Central Africa. Women’s participation and prevention of gender based violence are among her fields of expertise.
Before joining SDDirect she was Head of Office in DR Congo for a Swedish foundation focusing on the protection of women’s human rights defenders and support to women’s rights and peacebuilding organisations. Other assignments include responsibility for Sida’s (Sweden’s International Development Cooperation Agency’s) International Training Programmes in Human Rights, Peace and Security and Women, Peace and Security with senior representatives from security sector, government and civil society in different conflict and post conflict countries.
She has experience from working with participatory filmmaking in East Africa, community theatre in South Africa and gender equality training in Ghana. She has extensive experience of working with international and national civil society organisations.
Key qualifications include project design and management, technical expertise in women, peace and security, training and lecturing, strategic and operational leadership, analysis and research.
A native Swedish speaker, she is proficient in English and French.
Susanna is passionate about living in this present moment and teaches meditation in her free time. She also likes yoga, art, cooking and discovering her new home town, London.
