Nastasya Gecim joined SDDirect in December 2016 and is currently working full-time as the Portfolio Coordinator for the DFID-funded Girls’ Education Challenge programme. In this role she coordinates monitoring and reporting processes for 27 projects implemented in 15 countries and supporting around 1.4 million marginalised girls access education. She also carries out technical work and in-country monitoring assignments focused on safeguarding and protection, life skills, gender and social inclusion.
Nastasya is passionate about girls’ education and women’s empowerment and believes it should be at the heart of sustainable development initiatives. Her interest in this came following an internship with sexual and reproductive health organisation Marie Stopes International and she has since pursued this with overseas experience working for humanitarian aid agency Mercy Corps in Nigeria. For this role she conducted field research for educational projects targeting rural and nomadic girls in northern Nigeria.
She also brings project management and event logistics skills, including proposal writing, budget management, pre-event planning and onsite management gained in the fast-paced private sector. During this time, she worked for high-profile international events in the UK, France and Belgium.
Nastasya gained an MA with distinction in International Relations from Kings' College London, with a focus on the ethics of violence and international humanitarian law. She speaks fluent French, is a contemporary dancer and writes her own blog where she explores themes such as gender, politics and art.
