Marc joined the company as the first permanent managing director in June 2015. In this new role for SDDirect, as well as providing strategic leadership, Marc is focused on embedding our new company structure. He is responsible for running the overall business of SDDirect overseeing the operational activities of the Senior Management team and sitting on the board of directors.
Marc is a leader and entrepreneur who brings significant overseas experience to the team having spent most of the previous 10 years building companies in challenging settings including Russia, Pakistan, Syria and South Sudan. Marc holds an MSc in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London having initially trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He has built his core expertise around connecting organisations across sectors to improve information exchange and partnership processes to achieve common objectives. He has provided and facilitated multi-stakeholder approaches to complex programmes including the development of South Sudan’s first Oil Working Group – a cross stakeholder platform for coordination and dialogue.
He spent the last five years providing senior leadership in the development sector as one of the founder members of Integrity Research and Consultancy where he took on several senior roles. As well as overseeing new business, client management and partnerships globally, Marc spent significant time developing Integrity’s international presence setting up offices in East Africa and Asia. Prior to this Marc enjoyed a diverse range of experiences that includes: working in Switzerland and Lebanon for the International Centre for Transitional Justice completing research on the mechanisms and structure of the International Criminal Court and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon; as well as setting up a company in Russia which focused on Business English and Skills Training with clients including the Bank of Moscow and Gazprom.
In the development sector he has provided leadership on a broad range of programmes including: working across DFID’s governance portfolio in Pakistan including overseeing the evaluability of their Sub-national Governance Programme and setting up a Research and Innovation Unit within the Peacebuilding Support to the PCNA; overseeing research across DFID South Sudan’s Security Sector Reform (SSR) portfolio working with the police, the ministry of the interior, the armed forces and local communities; developing and providing significant technical contributions to DFID Pakistan’s Empowerment, Voice and Accountability for Basic Health and Nutrition Programme; and delivering multiple pro-poor and livelihoods based projects for the World Bank.
Outside of work he is currently completing a law degree and enjoys rock-climbing, hockey, tennis and motor-biking as regularly as possible.
