Kavita joined SDDirect in March 2019 as a technical specialist. She is currently providing technical and business development support to our Security, Justice and Peacebuilding portfolio as well as doing rapid research for the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF), the Disability Inclusive Development (DID) Helpdesk, and DFID’s flagship Works and Opportunities for Women (WOW) programme focusing on women’s economic empowerment.
Kavita holds an MSc in International Public Policy from UCL’s School of Public Policy and is currently studying part-time for an MA in Gender Studies from SOAS. She is particularly interested in exploring issues related to women’s economic empowerment and labour rights in her dissertation later in her course.
Prior to joining SDDirect, Kavita worked as a Progamme Management Coordinator for CARE International UK where she provided technical and management support to a Girls’ Education Challenge project in Afghanistan, managed gender-based violence projects in India and Nepal, and led the set-up of internal systems to support commercial contract management. She previously worked for a small community-based organisation in Mumbai supporting women from marginalised communities to train as leaders to address local issues using an insider-led approach. She has also worked for the International Rescue Committee Belgium doing advocacy around the Women, Peace and Security agenda, and was a trainee in the aid effectiveness unit at EuropeAid. Before joining the NGO sector, she worked in sales roles in Spain, Germany and China.
She speaks fluent French and Italian and has an advanced knowledge of Spanish.
