Joanita (or Nita for short) joined the Finance team at Social Development Direct in July 2015 as an Accountant, bringing nearly eight years of accounting experience working in various companies and sectors. She is the first point of contact for queries relating to invoices and payments in addition to having responsibility for month-end duties and providing support in the preparation of Management Accounts.
Joanita is from Uganda and moved to the UK at a young age in 1995 with her family. She graduated from Brunel University in 2008 with a BSc Hons in Business Management (Accounting) and is currently studying the ACCA qualification to become a Chartered Certified Accountant.
Her first job in the Accounting profession was as a Finance Assistant at Wembley Stadium within the corporate events team after which she worked at the money transfer subsidiary of JNBS, known as Jamaica National Overseas UK for two years. She spent one year working for a UK based Oil and Gas company with responsibility for all aspects of finance from invoicing up to preparation of finance reports and tracking project and joint venture expenditure. During this period, Joanita decided to embark on the ACCA qualification to further enhance her career and gain a deeper understanding of financial accounting. She moved into the charity sector to align her profession with her passion for helping people and having a positive impact on society. Prior to joining Social Development Direct, Joanita worked at the Teacher Support Network charity for three years as an Accounts Assistant and helped streamline the processes in the finance department.
Joanita enjoys participating in various sports particularly basketball and has played for several teams in south and west London as well as taking part in tournaments around Europe. She loves Street, Latin and ballroom dance and is a big fan of Strictly Come Dancing as well as an interest in photography specifically sports and landscape.
