Our Senior Associates
Lyndsay is an SDDirect Senior Associate with over 19 years' experience working in international development as a policy-maker, researcher and consultant. She has particular expertise in conflict-affected countries, focusing on conflict prevention and reduction, post-conflict reconstruction and peace building, gender and gender-based violence, women and girls’ empowerment, identity-based violence, ethnicity and exclusion, children and youth. She has also worked on several other policy areas including governance, refugees and migration, international trade and policy coherence for development.
Lyndsay is experienced in managing and conducting social research (qualitative and quantitative), linking research to policy and practice; teaching, training and facilitation; policy dialogue, undertaking policy analysis; programme design, development and implementation; monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment; project management; team leadership; and web-based communication.
Lyndsay previously worked for DFID in a number of programme and policy positions as well as for the European Council as political assistant to the EU Special Envoy to the Great Lakes region of Africa. She holds a Master's degree in Social Research Methods and a PhD in Development Studies (thesis on identity and reconciliation in post-conflict Rwanda). She is fluent in French and Italian and has a working knowledge of Danish and basic Kinyarwanda. Her main geographical area of expertise is Africa - she has worked in Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Tanzania, Uganda and Sierra Leone as well as Haiti and East Timor.
Lyndsay is currently the Technical Team Leader for the DFID-funded Violence against Women and Girls Helpdesk. She is a core team member of the DFID-funded What works to prevent Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) Programme and the DFID-funded La Pépinière programme in the DRC. She is a qualitative researcher within the large-scale DFID funded impact evaluation of the Safe Cities Initiative in Madhya Pradesh. She is also engaged in a number of smaller programmes in advisory positions.
